STRATHMORE has confirmed the signings of two ex-AFL players as it sets its sights on a return to finals in the Essendon District Football League next season.

The Mores have locked in former North Melbourne defender Nathan Grima and former North Melbourne and Geelong ruckman Hamish McIntosh in recent weeks.

The pair have both been training with the club during pre-season and are expected to be joined by some more key recruits who are set to be announced this week.

“They’re training and they’re training well,” Strathmore president John Elliott said.

“That’s all I can really report at the moment.”

McIntosh, 31, announced his retirement from the Cats after 126 AFL games in July due to knee and calf injuries.

Grima, 30, played 86 AFL matches before also being forced into early retirement this year due to a back injury.

Both players have links to the Strathmore, with Grima’s two brothers Alex and Todd already at the club and McIntosh good friends with several current Mores players.

Premiers in 2014, Strathmore slipped down the Premier Division pecking order this year to finish sixth with just eight wins from 18 outings.

The side will kick off the 2016 season with a Good Friday match against Keilor on March 25 next year.
